1. Go on a Doc Holliday Road Trip
John Henry Holliday, a Griffin dentist, but far better known as a Wild West gambler and gunfighter. Especially for the gunfight at the O.K. Corral in 1881 between the Billy Clanton gang and the Earp brothers who got help from Doc Holliday. As the story goes, the gunfight lasted less than a minute. Doc Holliday died of tuberculosis on November 8, 1887, at the age of 36. His last words were, “this is funny.”
Take the family on a self-guided driving tour and visit the Doc Holliday family home, where he was born on August 14, 1851. He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in 1852, where the fire station is now. Holliday inherited a portion of the Solomon Street Building, and it’s believed that he had his dental practice here in 1872. Although he died in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, it’s believed that his family brought his remains home for a secret burial.
