Griffin, GA is a welcoming community packed with small-town Georgian charm. Lying just to the south of Atlanta, Griffing was once a bustling railroad boomtown, and has buckets of interesting history and heritage. And if you fancy an entertaining excursion out of town, there are many excellent nearby day trips to choose from. Read on to learn the best of them.

World of Coca-Cola

For a rather unique experience, head into Atlanta to delve into the history of the world’s most iconic beverage. Your kids will enjoy seeing how the bottling process works and messing around with all the colorful, dynamic, hands-on attractions.

You can mix up and bottle your own fizzy drink recipes and get pictures taken with the famous Coca-Cola polar bear. There’s also a 4D theatre, exhibitions of coke posters from over the years, and hundreds of interesting coke-related artifacts.

Stone Mountain Park

The region’s most popular family-friendly outing destination is Stone Mountain Park, where you can explore 3,200 acres of stunning parkland filled with attractions and recreational activities. Enjoy golfing, picnicking, birdwatching, or fishing at the gleaming waters of a 363-acre lake.

There are 15 miles of hiking trails through breathtaking natural landscapes, where you’ll find an old-style grist mill, a granite quarry, a few picturesque bridges, and other curiosities. If you’re lucky, on your visit you’ll also catch one of the park’s many festivals, which include the Pumpkin Festival and the Yellow Daisy Festival.

Georgia Aquarium

Why not take your family along to one of the best aquarium experiences available in the country. At Georgia Aquarium, you can dive into a vast underwater world to marvel at whale sharks, sea lions, manta rays, beluga whales, alligators, and many more wonderful aquatic animals.

There are plenty of interactive educational experiences, for adults and kids alike, where you can learn all about the animals and their habitats. There’s also a series of exhibits to show how some of the strangest underwater lifeforms exist in the world’s most inhospitable environments.

Callaway Gardens

This wonderfully cultivated recreational area is for anyone who wants a day of escape into nature at its most peaceful. You can stroll through the extensive gardens, where you’ll come across lovely natural attractions, including holly gardens, a pioneer log cabin, and a butterfly house filled with over 1,000 butterflies.

You can boat and fish on a few pristine lakes, or go swimming at one of the beaches. There’s even a variety of water sports to partake in. And scattered throughout the gardens are a few fine little restaurants for your lunch and supper.

Athens

For the music-lovers and cultural connoisseurs among you, the nearby town of Athens certainly deserves a visit. Athens has many beautiful buildings of 18th-century architecture, making it a beautiful place to stroll around. The indie music scene there is thriving and you’ll also come across a variety of eclectic art galleries, both large and small, featuring all styles of artwork.
